Home electrification requires whole-home contractors

And whole-home contractors deserve software purpose-built for their work

Ducking was started after our team met in the On Deck Climate Tech fellowship in 2021. We bonded over a shared goal: use our backgrounds at technology companies to help address climate change.

After learning about the range of opportunities in climate tech, we were drawn to home electrification. The technology was here and already outperforming its fossil fuel counterparts. Heat pumps mean higher performance heating & cooling versus combustion-based furnaces. Induction stoves mean healthier kitchens and better cooking than gas stoves. Adding solar, batteries, and EV chargers to homes could enhance the benefits even further.

The problem this technology is facing is deployment. It’s difficult to electrify homes today: information about electric appliances is scarce, it’s harder for contractors to make the installations, and it’s costly. There are over 100 million homes in the US and the clock is ticking, so these problems need to be solved quickly.

So, we set out to do that. We started by helping homeowners directly, but quickly learned about the problems contractors are facing. Electrification requires a whole-home focus, but it’s difficult to build a whole-home plan for homeowners, educate customers about it, and manage the applicable incentives & financing options. We are building software to alleviate these pains.
